Sydney’s Tile Roofing Specialists
From Repairs to Full Re-Roofs
Tiled roofs are built to last, but the parts holding them together are not. Terracotta roof tiles and concrete roof tiles are the two most common materials on Sydney homes, and both can outlast the bedding, pointing, flashings and valleys that keep water out. When those details fail, you get slipped tiles, cracked ridge capping and a leaking tiled roof that often shows up inside long after the damage started. City2Surf Roofing repairs, restores and replaces tile roofs across Sydney, working on everything from modern concrete profiles to Marseille terracotta and older heritage tiles.

Tile Roof Replacement
When repairs stop making sense, a new tile roof does
Some roofs reach a point where patching one problem only exposes the next. Porous concrete tiles from the 1960s and 70s, widespread cracking, rotted roof battens or repeated leaks after previous repairs are all signs that replacement will cost less over time than ongoing maintenance. We will tell you honestly which side of that line your roof sits on.
A tile roof replacement involves stripping the old tiles, checking the roof frame, installing new battens and fixing new tiles with fresh ridges, valleys and flashings. You can replace like for like with concrete or terracotta, update to a modern profile and colour, or convert from tiles to Colorbond if you would prefer a lighter roof. We supply tiles from established manufacturers such as Monier and Bristile.
Tile Roof New Installations
Tile roofing for new homes, additions and extensions
We install new terracotta and concrete tile roofs for new builds, knock-down rebuilds and home additions across Sydney. Every installation is set out, battened and fixed to Australian Standard AS 2050, including the tile clips and fixing patterns required for your site’s wind rating.
On extensions, the hardest part is making the new section look like it was always there. We match tile profile, colour and ridge detailing as closely as possible and tie the new roof into the existing one so the join does not become the next leak. We work directly with homeowners as well as builders and architects.
How We Handle Tile Roof Work
1.
We check from inside the roof space too
Water stains on rafters and battens show where a leak actually enters, which is often metres away from where it drips through the ceiling. Looking from both sides stops us fixing the wrong spot.
2.
You see photos of what we find
Most people never see their own roof, so we photograph the problem areas and walk you through them. You approve the work knowing exactly what you are paying for.
3.
We quote the honest option, not the biggest one
If a few tiles and a ridge repoint will solve it, that is what we will quote. If a restoration would only be cosmetic on a failing roof, we will tell you before you spend the money.
4.
We walk the roof the right way
Tiles crack easily under the wrong foot placement, so we step only where tiles are supported by the battens. A repair should never leave you with more broken tiles than it started with.
5.
We use flexible pointing on ridges
Flexible pointing compounds move with the roof as it expands and contracts in Sydney’s heat. They hold up far longer than the old sand-and-cement finish.
6.
We water test leak repairs
Where it is safe to do so, we run water over the repaired area before we pack up. That way you know the leak is fixed before the next storm proves it.
About City2Surf Roofing
City2Surf Roofing is a Brookvale-based roofing company providing roofing services across Sydney, led by founder Kinsley Denning, who was trained in the trade by his father. Kinsley launched his first roofing business in Wales at just 19 and spent 17 years working on heritage buildings across the UK before bringing that experience to Sydney. That grounding in traditional roofing is why tile and slate work, where so much of the detail is done by hand, remains at the heart of what we do, and Kinsley still leads every project with a hands-on approach.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you match my tiles if they are no longer made?
Often, yes. We source matching tiles from second-hand and salvage stock, and on some roofs we take tiles from a less visible section, such as a rear slope, to repair the front, then fill the back with the closest available match.
Can I coat or paint terracotta tiles?
Unglazed terracotta can be cleaned and sealed, but glazed terracotta should not be painted, as coatings will not bond properly to the glaze and will eventually peel. Concrete tiles benefit most from a roof coating, because their surface wears and becomes porous with age.
Can sarking be added to an existing tiled roof?
Yes. Roof sarking is a reflective, water-resistant membrane laid under the tiles that catches wind-driven rain and dust and improves the roof’s thermal performance. Installing it means lifting the tiles and battens, so it is most cost-effective during a re-roof or when large sections are already being worked on.
My home is in a bushfire-prone area. Does that affect my tile roof?
It can. Under AS 3959, tiled roofs in bushfire-prone areas generally need to be fully sarked with gaps sealed against ember entry, and the exact requirements depend on your property’s Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) rating. If you are replacing or extending your roof, we build to the rating that applies to your site.
Will solar panels damage my tiled roof?
Solar installation is one of the most common causes of cracked tiles we see, because installers walk the roof and lift tiles to fit mounting brackets. If you have recently had panels fitted and notice a leak, we can inspect around the brackets and replace any tiles that were cracked or reset poorly.
How often should a tiled roof be inspected?
We recommend a roof inspection every two to three years, and after any major hailstorm or wind event. Catching small faults early is far cheaper than repairing water-damaged ceilings and insulation later.
